– Chaoran Hu has received the 2020 Student Paper Award in the Statistical Computing and Statistical Graphics Sections of the ASA

The same paper has also been chosen as honorable mention for 2020 JSM ENVR section student paper competition award.

– Former student Sudipto Banerjee, Ph.D. (2000), Professor and Chair of Dept. of Biostatistics, UCLA has been awarded the 2019 George W. Snedecor award

Congratulations to our alumnus Sudipto Banerjee (2000, PhD), Professor and Chair, Department of Biostatistics, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health for receiving the 2019 George W. Snedecor award, which was established in 1976 and is one of the prestigious COPSS awards based on the high standards of his paper `Hierarchical nearest-neighbor Gaussian process models for large geostatistical datasets’ (by Datta, A., Banerjee, S., Finley, A.O. and Gelfand, A.E.), as well as the impressive extent to which Sudipto has been instrumental in the development of statistical theory in biometry, in particular, his groundbreaking and fundamental work on Bayesian hierarchical modelling and the analysis of large spatial datasets, and his contributions to the mapping of disease incidence in space and time, and the analysis of environmental exposures.
